A Stiff Challenge – 10 August 2024
With Stephen Dillons’ passing on 21st May 2023, he left behind his wife Elaine and
their three small children, who need our support for the difficult times ahead.
This is the second Stiff challenge.
We are once again organising this GoFundMe (all money raised goes directly to
Elaine), and running alongside this fundraiser an event in Stephen’s memory ‘The
Stiff Challenge’, to be held on Saturday 10 August in the beautiful surrounds of
Blessington.
If you are not able to attend on the day, it would be great if you could do a
walk/cycle/run/kayak for Stephen in your own county/country on the day, and post a
photo to ‘A Stiff Challenge’ Facebook page.
Instead of charging a fee for each entry, we would suggest a donation of at least €25
per event participant to this GoFundMe, but any amount will be gratefully appreciated.
Your entry fee will be to show us your GoFundMe donation receipt (on paper or
phone) when you arrive at the event. We will also have a donation bucket available
on the day for cash donations.
It will be a great opportunity for everyone to get together and either walk, run, cycle
or kayak in memory of Stephen, whilst raising essential funds to help his family. We
are aiming to have everyone finished by approximately 6pm so we can gather
together in Miley’s pub to celebrate Stephen’s life.

START TIME:
For walkers/runners/cyclists: Depending on what distance you decide to do, start
when you like, the main aim is to get everyone back to Miley’s Pub for 6pm.
For kayakers: 3pm at Russlestown Bay. Bring your boat to Russlestown carpark (see
map) and start from there.
ROUTE:
Walkers/runners/cyclists:
Start from Mileys pub, Main Street, Blessington. Walk/run/cycle to the Avon*, then
walk/cycle the Blessington Greenway as far as you like (the Greenway ends at
Russlestown Bay) and take the same route back.
*Note: If you would prefer to drive to The Avon and walk the Greenway that’s fine
too!
Kayakers:
Starting from Russelstown Bay – paddle to The Avon and back. Those who wish for a
shorter route can turn at the bridge at Burgage.
Check for any route updates here and on the Facebook page ‘A Stiff Challenge’.
We are aiming to have everyone finished by approximately 6pm so we can gather
together in Miley’s pub for some food (not sure what type of food yet, but there
will be some!) and raise a glass to celebrate Stephen’s life.
