Travel Expenses to film with Chris and Jordan

BIG UPDATE!
*******************************************************************************

I think it's probably a good idea to share I have pretty severe ADHD and struggle with tasks like budgeting, I am currently unmedicated due to losing my benefits so it's especially bad. I've forced myself to sit down properly because I needed to figure out mileage, gas costs, hotel costs, food costs, insurance, car rental and all that! I am writing out it so that anyone can double check any of this info if need be. AND if anyone has an idea on cheaper hotels in Chicago I'm happy to hear them. I am bringing my Story Producer if the dates work out for her but she will purchase her own food so the trip won't cost any extra but our room needs to have two beds. What I didn't take into account when I was researching is that I was just putting dates in April for hotels which is the off-season. Chris and I decided September would work best for him and for us to plan properly but that's NOT off-season and the hotels are nearly double what I thought they would be soooooo here is what I have figured out and matched the target to. Sorry for any confusion! I've confused myself!

CANADIAN CURRENCY, fundraiser is in CAD as well

Car rental for the weekend through enterprise: $752.60

Insurance for car: $50 ( I can get this great rate by just adding it to my own car insurance)

Mileage: 1150km making gas at an average of 3.84per litre according to the calculator online: the car does 8.2 per litre which makes the gas $489 plus a bit of gas to drive around while there $549

The dreaded hotel for 4 nights: cheapest I can find that is safe and clean is $1201.82 for 4 nights. If I don't fundraise enough I will stay less time but the DOP is going to be there for 4 days and it's better if I am there for the whole filming process and gives us more time with Chris and Jordan. I'm also open to billeting with a birder in the area or someone who knows Chris and that would save a chunk of money, I won't be there much! I just need a place to sleep and you don't have to feed or entertain me :)

Food: $500 for 5 days

The exchange rate is not great!

All for a total of: $3003.42 Canadian or $2249.60 American (see where my brain was at? Amercian dollars...however, this gofundme is in Canadian dollars)

We are going to make this trip happen to tell Chris and Jordan's story! I'm open to any money saving ideas, send me a message if you have any through the Birder Brain instagram, or Chris!

Now, I'm really just aiming to make this goal. HOWEVER, if we beat it there are many ideas I have to make this even more film festival worthy that cost money. Some of Chris' film friends have offered to help/volunteer as needed which is so amazing. Thank you! So if we reach this goal and surpass it please know the entire amount will go towards producing this short documentary. If we don't make this goal I will still travel to Chicago but for only a couple of days.

It's Kelly-Sue of Birder Brain! I am fundraising for travel costs to reach my next subject of filming, Chris Roman. Chris has a particularly unique story to tell that I think is so important to be able to tell in a more personal way, through film.

Chris lives outside of Chicago, Illinois which is a 5 1/2 hour drive from me making filming doable for a short trip.

In my conversations with Chris I've decided this story would be a great candidate to enter into film festivals over the next year as well furthering the reach and audience of the project.

Donations over $50 will receive a thank you in the credits of this film. Any donations over $500 will receive a Producer credit. So if you have always wanted to produce a film, now's your chance!

If we go way over the funding goal I'd love to hire some crew to help with the editing/sound/composing.

Thank you for reading! This is a big step towards helping the project realize its main goal of a feature-length documentary one day!
