Yesterday afternoon, my sister-in-law’s family experienced something no one should ever have to go through. Her mother and her two younger children lost their home after their apartment building caught fire in Roswell.

In just a matter of moments, their lives were turned upside down. A place that was once filled with comfort, memories, and safety is now gone. So many of their personal belongings, clothes, furniture, and everyday essentials were lost in the fire. The emotional pain of watching your home and everything inside it disappear is something no family should ever have to endure.

As if the trauma of the fire was not enough, her mother was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. She is now suffering from head and back injuries and is currently unable to walk. This has added even more stress and heartbreak to an already devastating situation.

They were also informed that they cannot return to their apartment and must now immediately find a new place to live. They are now facing the heartbreaking reality of having to start over from almost nothing while still trying to process everything that has happened.

This has been an incredibly traumatic experience, especially for the children, who are struggling to understand why they can no longer return home. One of the children has special needs and is on the autism spectrum, making this sudden loss and disruption even more overwhelming. Both children are also experiencing significant trauma from having to jump from the second floor to escape the fire.

Como si el trauma del incendio no fuera suficiente, su mamá fue trasladada de urgencia al hospital con heridas graves. Ahora está sufriendo lesiones en la cabeza y en la espalda, y actualmente no puede caminar. Esto ha añadido aún más estrés y dolor a una situación ya devastadora.

También les informaron que no pueden regresar a su apartamento y ahora deben encontrar de inmediato un nuevo lugar donde vivir. Ahora están enfrentando la dolorosa realidad de tener que empezar de nuevo con casi nada, mientras todavía intentan procesar todo lo sucedido.

Esta ha sido una experiencia increíblemente traumática, especialmente para los niños, quienes están luchando por entender por qué ya no pueden regresar a casa. Uno de los niños tiene necesidades especiales y está dentro del espectro autista, lo que hace que esta pérdida repentina y esta interrupción sean aún más abrumadoras. Ambos niños también están experimentando un gran trauma por haber tenido que saltar desde el segundo piso para escapar del incendio.
