The West End rates amongst the top communities in detrimental statistics when we examine the 52 communities of Cincinnati. The West End Community has the 4th largest infant mortality rate; a life expectancy rate 20 years less than other Cincinnati Communities; disproportionately high rates of air quality pollution; a food desert, nearly 75% unprotected renters; and many other issues that magnify poverty and despair. With the recent happening in our neighborhood, we have almost 50% of renters at risk of eviction, which increases the need for our services and programs in the West End. The numerous developments occurring in our neighborhood provokes the potential of landlords increasing rental prices, which makes it prevalent that we raise awareness and funds for affordable housing.
Therefore, Seven Hills Neighborhood Houses has started the Home Sweet Home campaign to raise awareness and funds for affordable housing projects in the West End. The campaign will consist of a series of three events happening in the West End August 29th - August 31st. The first event (Celebrity Home game) will be held on August 29th at 7pm. This event will be a slow pitch softball game that feature local celebrities. The second event will be the Homecoming dance on Friday, August 30th from 7-11p that will be a ticketed event with two different bands, alcoholic beverages for sale, and light appetizers. The third event will be the HomeRUN 5k on Saturday, August 31st at 9am. This event will be a 5k run through the West End that will end at the West End Reunion in Wade Street Park. All of the profits from this project will be going directly to affordable housing projects in the West End.
