Vandals Devastate Local Apiary
Donation protected
I'm fundraising on behalf of a friend, farmer and beekeeper.
On Wednesday, December 8th, Andrea, owner of Z's Happy Bees and a committed member of our Mount Vernon and Skagit Valley community, was awoken by her dog and made aware of noises in her yard. Upon inspection, she witnessed two individuals running away on her property.
It was dark. But she was able to make out very quickly that the trespassers had vandalized her apiary and knocked over several of her bee hives. They were thrown off the pallets and the boxes were separated. She sprinted back to the house to don her bee suit, grab a flashlight and quickly call 911. She made it back to the vandalized hives to save what she could of her bees. Most of them had devastatingly died. All of the bees in the hives that were toppled were lost, except one. As the sun came up and the extent of the loss was confirmed, Andrea mournfully tended to her empty hives and broken heart.
Please help me wrap support around Andrea and her livelihood and passion. If you know her - and most local farmers do - you know that she loves her bee's. This has been a tremendous blow to her spirit and I refuse to let the vandals have the largest and most lasting impact on this family. Please give what you can so that Andrea can build her colonies back, restore her business and patch her heart back up with optimism from her community.
On behalf of us at Our Legacy Fields, thank you for your big-hearted kindness and generosity.
