Help Sabrina keep custody of her child

I have started this campaign to help my friends. I am submitting this story on behalf of one of them. To protect privacy, names and countries of origin have been changed but the story is true.

On behalf of one of them:

"Sabrina got married in Afghanistan to a man who was described to her as a very good man because he was a doctor in the USA. She got married, moved to the USA, only to find herself at the mercy of a violent husband. Her son was born in the USA. When Sabrina realized that her son could be in danger as well, she found the courage to talk to the police. Eventually, after a long battle, Sabrina left her husband, moved away from him, and decided to raise her son alone. The battle to protect her son from her abusive ex-husband has been going since then. Sabrina isn’t a US citizen and her current visa does not allow her to work.

Sabrina is a very intelligent and responsible person. She takes care of her son by making sure he gets the education he deserves while she pursues an associate degree in business administration at the local University. She was able to secure two scholarships for her degree and I have no doubt that she will find a job soon after graduating and obtaining her visa that allows her to work.

However, her ex-husband makes her life as difficult as possible. Unfortunately, the man was not imprisoned for what he did because it was advice to her to keep him working to get child support. But recently, he has decided to move to a different state, go back to school to become a student, and has stopped providing child support for his own son. He is now filing a motion for custody of his child after 4 years of not seeing him. Sabrina finds herself without money and cannot pay for legal fees to hire a lawyer.

We are trying to raise money for Sabrina to fight for her right to keep her child safe and healthy. Her friends and local associations have been able to help her with food and rent.

But charity funds cannot usually pay for legal fees such as the ones that are needed to hire a lawyer. We need the fund by the end of September to hire the lawyer.

I met Sabrina in my street. We used to live in the same neighborhood. Her son and my son are the same age and they love to play together. We used to go on walks with strollers together when they were little and have little chats. Sabrina was very interesting to me, she had a different culture, and she would talk about her discoveries about this new culture she had been brought to. She was always very grateful for being here, and she slowly opened up to me. I quickly realized the difficulty of her situation and she eventually told me what was happening to her. Back when she was married to her ex-husband, she was not allowed to talk to non-Muslims and was forced to wear a veil. He would do everything he could to isolate and scare her. She is a very social, and a kind person, and loves to talk to everyone around her. She doesn’t drink yet she would bring wine to parties she was invited to. She is very respectful to other cultures and wants her son to grow up in a respectful environment.

I admire Sabrina very much for her strength and her capability to manage being a single mom, a minority, and a successful student. It is crucial that Sabrina remains the sole custodian of her son as she has done in the past several years. She is without a doubt the most important part of her son’s life.

This is an ongoing battle. It isn’t the first time that Sabrina’s ex-husband has been filing for awful things like that. Any help that Sabrina can get will be used to help her fight back until she can get a visa that allows her to work. "

I have met Sabrina and she is a very responsible woman and very loving to her son. Please consider helping her out with anything you can. This is a very difficult situation and if we all help a little bit we can help Sabrina keep her son.
