Almost exactly 2 years ago my mum became ill with Covid, and what was to come following that was something we could have never predicted.

She became incredibly unwell - in her own words, unable to think straight or function normally. She battled with extreme lows for months on end, soon becoming unable to care for herself and this was detrimental to next events.

My mum has always been the most selfless, kind and pure person I’ve ever known. Always putting others first and loving life’s small pleasures. Her being unable to feel her normal self and experiencing such mental pain was extremely hard to bear. We hoped her brain dysfunction would subside or heal over time.

As a family through all her lowest lows we tried hard to hold on to the fact that we know she’s deep inside there, shed try numerous times to take her life due to the side effects of prescribed medicines that furthered her struggles more than helping her condition. My family really managed to prevent her from leaving earth too soon far too many times…

Unfortunately Mum was recently told something very triggering to her in a prolonged appointment with a physcotherapist and this lead her to trying (in her mind) a final time, to take her life. She jumped a 30ft bridge over the motorway in the middle of the night on the 8th of August and has since been put in a horrific state of physical trauma alongside her continued mental struggles.

With brain damage, a many broken bones and more recently discovered paralysis, all I could wish for my mums future is some sort of comfort. At some point, somehow.

I will be doing a walk from the top of Hampstead Heath down to Richmond Park in an effort to raise funds to support my family in visiting her whilst in rehabilitation.

Mums like mine truly do shape us and in my Dads words become our true core. We love you Mum - to the moon and back.
