The Shinnecock Indian Nation are historic expert canoers. It is how the tribe traveled and fished for thousands of years. We would canoe and paddle in our bays, creeks, and the Atlantic Ocean.

For the past 10 years, we have reinvigorated our paddling culture by hosting an annual mishoon (canoe race). After starting with just 4 teams, we now have over 20 teams racing every year!

We know by instilling our canoe tradition with our youth and community, it will teach healthy habits, teamwork, and responsibility.
