As the President of the Board and interim Development Director of Freedom Guide Dogs for the Blind, I am reaching out to as many folks that I can this holiday season to request your support in helping to sustain a small, but highly effective 501 (c) non-profit organization in Upstate New York; who for the past 26 years who have, and continue to, successfully breed, raise, train and place fully trained guide dogs (at no cost to the client) with legally blind individuals who may also have other disabilities and otherwise not a good prognosis for a meaningful life.
Freedom Guide Dogs for the Blind employs a trademark training technique wherein the "team" is trained in the client's hometown in order to forgo the usual expense and logistical difficulties with traveling to a foreign destination and living arrangements.
The cost of providing for and training a successful guide dog can run upwards of $50,000 per dog.
If you have never felt the impact of watching a client-guide dog team work together, I invite you to view a brief youtube video of one of our teams training together. https://youtu.be/La7sKrsai9Q
I hope that it not only helps you to open your eyes to those less fortunate, but also open your heart to support the dedication and unselfishness of those who devote their lives to understand the disabled and their needs to be a productive member of society again -thanks to the aid of a Freedom Guide Dog.
