In late January/early Feb, I am going to sleep rough for four nights in Glasgow; to raise awareness for homelessness!
My aim is to highlight the realism of homelessness, and show others too so we can all build some compassion and empathy towards those who are. Even if you don't donate, the hope is that after watching our documentry, the next time you walk past a homeless person in the street, you might give some spare change, offer encouragement or simply just a smile of acknowledgement; rather than moving to the opposite side of the pavement and completely ignoring them.
You might've seen that in the UK as of this month, sleeping rough for as little as one night, is now grounds for deportation for non-UK nationals!
As of December 1st, peoples rights to remain in the UK can be cancelled or refused for spending as little as one night sleeping on the streets.
Earlier this year, the government promised to provide thousands of long-term, safe homes for vulnerable rough sleepers. What they didn't mention was - only if you're British.
I don’t believe this is helping an already common problem, but actually punishing it. Especially in times like this, when even everyone is struggling.
*I am not doing this to challenge any laws but in the hope to raise some funds and donate all of it to Steps For Hope; a charity that focuses on giving aid and support to homeless and those suffering from addiction. Check them out on Facebook.
Any advice, experience or donation is VERY welcome!
Hereeee we go!
If you want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money in aid of Steps to Hope SCIO and every donation will help. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.
