My name is Georgie Cartwright and I am in my second year at Teeside University studying adult nursing. This October, I have the incredible opportunity to take part in an international nursing placement in Phnom Penh, Cambodia with Transform Healthcare Cambodia, a UK charity dedicated to improving healthcare through education, training and clinical expertise. During my time in Cambodia, I’ll gain valuable experience across a range of settings including theatres, obstretics and nursing education working alongside both student and qualified nurses. I’ll also be visiting village schools to teach children about the importance of disease prevention through simple but life changing practices such as handwashing and teeth brushing. Whilst my university provides some support, much of the funding is down to me to cover the costs of flights, accommodation and the uniform required for the trip. So I am asking for donations to help cover these costs and also to allow me to buy much needed supplies for the hospitals, schools and villages such as notebooks and pens. Any contribution, big or small, will help to make a real difference to the communities I’ll be serving and the overall experience will have a massive impact on my own learning and personal development.
