Hello! My name is Julie and I am part of an HOA in Los Angeles, California. We are a mix of people from all walks of life -- young families, Millennials, retirees, and immigrants. But, we all share one thing: our board is absolutely unhinged.
Some highlights:
- They are recipients of several lawsuits, one of which is active
- They have neglected serious code violations, which puts our community at risk in the event of fires
- They are refusing to hold meetings or elections, per California law, so we can legally remove them via normal procedures.
- They have managed things so poorly (out of compliance with California law) that they got us fired from two different property management companies in as many years
Back in March, we attempted to overthrow them with an informal election, but they refused to concede. Which is a pickle because HOAs are basically classified as non-profits in California and are registered with the Secretary of State, so we can't do anything about it without a long, drawn-out legal process.
In short, our HOA is in a good ole' fashioned hostage situation!
In order to get out of this situation, we need three things:
1. An official election service to legally recall (remove) the board -- $1,000
2. Hire an HOA lawyer to remove them and guide us through the legal process -- $425/hr, two hours to start
3. Hope -- free, God willing
