With your generous donation, a local Afghan refugee family will be able to buy a minivan that will fit their entire family of seven.
The father spent years translating for the US Army in Afghan combat zones, providing vital support to our troops on the ground. As it became clear US forces would be pulling out of Afghanistan, they evacuated their home and left their loved ones for a new start in the Bay Area.
I met this family within weeks of their arrival in the East Bay and have been in constant contact with them and other volunteer organizations that have helped them get situated.
While the family has been able to receive support for an apartment and basic needs, this van will help them become more independent to safely work, get their kids to school and run errands. They have five young children (1 yr, 3 yrs, 5 yrs, 6 yrs, and 8 yrs) and without a car, walking has been how they travel together.
Helping this family get a start in the US has become a personal priority for me and I appreciate any donation you can make. If you'd like to learn more about how you can help, please let me know.
