Providence College Immersion Trip

This May, eleven Providence College students will be traveling to Montego Bay, Jamaica, to Blessed Assurance, a Mustard Seed Community which is a residential home to over 30 children with disabilities. This immersions trip is sponsored by Providence College's campus ministry program. The Mustard Seed Communities are a nonprofit dedicated to caring for the most vulnerable populations of the world. With locations in Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Zimbabwe, and Malawi, the Mustard Seed Communities serve populations of children and adults with disabilities, children affected by HIV/AIDS, and young mothers in crisis. With love as their motive, MSC's guiding principles are caring, sharing, training, and spirituality. The mission statement of the Mustard Seed Communities is as follows: "Inspired by the healing and caring Ministry of Jesus Christ, we aim through the positive interaction of caring, sharing and training, to uplift the most vulnerable members of society, especially disabled and abandoned children, and marginalized communities. We are committed to the fostering of homes and communities, which will lead us all to loving service and mutual respect and which will bring us joy, hope and dignity." We as PC students are looking to be immersed in the Jamaican culture and experience and reflect the love of Christ through our relationships with the residents, staff, and people we meet in Jamaica at Blessed Assurance.

The cost of this trip is around $750 for each student. With a goal of $1500, we have the potential to cut off $150 for each student. This trip is extremely meaningful to all of us participating, and we are each going with a special intention. Through relationships, cultural experience, and immersion, the effects of this trip are innumerable. We are hoping that the connections we make will leave lasting footprints on our heart and the effects will cultivate a deep meaning in the service we experience and take part within the Mustard Seed Community. We are extraordinarily grateful for any support you may be willing to provide.
