My cousin, Lori and her family, need your help this Christmas season. Lori and Thomas have two boys, Liam 3 years old, and Wyatt their 1 year old. This year, Lori found out she was pregnant with twins. Instead of being full of excitement and worry about normal “mom of multiples” stressors, she had to worry about their growth and development in the womb. The twins were sharing a placenta which means one twin seemed to be growing at a normal rate, but the other was measuring much smaller. Lori had to make multiple trips to a specialist in Cincinnati (3 hrs away), losing time at work and with her kids at home.
On November 3rd (31 weeks), Lori gave birth to Amelia and Sophia. Lori had to have an emergency C-section as Amelia was not doing well. While many twins are born premature, Amelia’s situation is much more delicate. Amelia was the smaller twin weighing 1.14 lb, Sophia weighing 3.8 lbs. Both girls have remained in the NICU since birth, but recently Amelia had to be airlifted to Riley Children’s hospital in Indianapolis for care. Lori and Thomas recently drove home in separate vehicles to pick up Sophia and the boys to bring to Indianapolis with them. They are all staying at the local Ronald McDonald house in one bedroom.
Lori’s mom helps with the boys but she herself has delicate medical issues. As most of us know or can imagine, watching two toddlers is a handful for anyone. Any donation will help as Amelia will be in the NICU for months to come. Eventually Amelia’s siblings will have to go back to Evansville, and Lori’s mom will need help to care for all 4 of them.
The goal of this fundraiser reflects the endless days to come in the NICU, a new vehicle for a family of 6, the cost of growing medical bills, travel expenses, and to help with Lori’s family at home. We know the road ahead is long and we want to help this sweet family through all of it, especially during this Christmas season where we know her family won’t be together opening presents Christmas morning.
If you are not able to donate, we ask to please add Lori and her family to your prayer list.
“For where two or three have gathered in My name, there am I with them.”
