HELP THE CHURCH FIGHT ONGOING GENTRIFICATION:
PLEASE READ
Unfortunately, we have received a 3-day notice to PAY OR QUIT.
The Church is currently facing eviction and if we do not rectify this debt in due time, our surrounding neighborhood and community will be facing ANOTHER wave of gentrification.
The Church is one of, if not the last DIY community space that prioritizes and protects the black, brown, and LGBTQ+ creatives of Los Angeles.
Here is where we are at right now—
We have to come up with around $10,000 ASAP to avoid immediate eviction this coming Friday. We are working together with our supporters to organize rent parties and fundraisers for the space, but we really need donations from our communities to go towards rent and to help us operate said fundraising events.
The Church has been a huge staple in the LA underground and DIY scene—after going through and surviving a plethora of changes and improvements, it has successfully created a very beautiful and rapidly thriving community.
That being said, we would not be where we are today without you all. But with the current economy/political climate and our shows not doing as well anymore, things like rent and utilities come out of the pockets of those of us who work at The Church part/full-time on top of our other occupations.
There are up to 17 creatives, artists, and musicians here who help operate this space and they are all at risk of losing everything they have worked so hard for.
This is a POC and queer led space and we are asking for the support of the Los Angeles community to keep DIY alive and thriving in the face of discrimination and fascism.
Please consider donating and/or sharing this campaign before it’s too late for us.
Our city needs US, and we need YOU. Anything at all will help us reach our goal.
Thank you for reading and thank you for your unyielding support.
With love,
The Church
