Many of you have heard me talk about my friend and hero, Sabuli, who cares for orphaned children in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). My family has known Sabuli personally for almost 15 years and her story is quite remarkable! http://www.congovoice.org/sabulis-children-1 With over 100 children at the orphanage, feeding and caring for them has been an ongoing challenge. Many of these children come to Sabuli after losing their mothers in childbirth. Some have mothers who have died from the AIDS epidemic, and others are from families where it is no longer possible to care for them. Sabuli has stretched modest resources in order to meet the most basic of needs, but the number of children continues to grow. In the past two years, Sabuli has experienced a sharp increase in the number of babies as people in remote villages have heard of how she cares for orphans and bring her malnourished newborns whose mothers have died in childbirth.
The challenge is that the cost of caring for a baby in the remote Gemena area of the DRC (one of the poorest countries in the world) is as much as here in US. Formula alone is $175 USD per baby per month and is draining the funds of the Sabuli’s Children’s Center. Sabuli currently has 16 babies in her care, which has severely depleted the orphanage’s funds.
Our goal is to raise $30,000 by May 1, 2019. 100 percent of funds raised (after GoFundME fees) will go to CongoVoice/Sabuli’s Children Center and will be used to purchase formula, food and diapers. If you are able to help, in any way, please donate today and share Sabuli’s story with your friends and family.
Thank you for any help you can offer!
If you desire a tax-deductible receipt, you may give instead directly through the CongoVoice.org website and select “Children’s Center” under purpose.
