Bramwell, West Virginia, a town with a rich history dating back to the late 1800s, faces severe financial difficulties. Once a thriving hub, it has changed over a century from a coal mining mecca to an historical icon, attracting tourism and promising a brighter future for its residents. But the Town's new administration, elected in 2023, discovered the past administration's financial mismanagement, including unpaid taxes and fines, putting Bramwell at risk of dissolution by the federal government. Despite these challenges, the administration and community are fighting to save the town without pay, leveraging donations, and selling assets.
The Bramwell Theatre Corporation is disheartened by these circumstances. The tax debt and fines alone amount to $166,000 The Town can deplete all its accounts to pay off the debt left by the preceding administration, but there will be no funds left with
which to operate the town, pay utilities, hire employees, nor address other delinquencies bequeathed to the new administration, such as EPA-mandated repairs to an aging reservoir.
We humbly ask for your help to preserve Bramwell’s legacy, and ensure the survival of this extraordinary piece of our country's great history. If you have any questions we invite you to call, email or come by Bramwell Town Hall and speak with administration directly. Thank you for considering supporting our cause!
