Dear family, friends, and good people of the social-web,

My name is Max Meyer, and I am a third year student at Chico State. I am currently pursuing my undergraduate degree in Agricultural Science, with an emphasis in Land Resource Management. In the past 2.5 years, I have learned so much and developed a deep passion for understanding and restoring our local and global environment. I was recently presented an opportunity that will allow me to put my passion into real action.  This May I will travel to Cambodia with the Reach-Out Volunteer Program. As part of this program, I will be constructing and implementing the world's largest man-made coral reef and nursery off the shores of Cambodia, in what was a prominent fishing village.

Much of Cambodia's food supply is derived from the ocean.  Due to the spike in ocean temperatures, unjust fishing techniques, and miscare of our oceans, this coral reef has been nearly decimated, leaving Cambodian’s without a reliable food source. Future generations of Cambodians risk starvation as our aquatic life fights for its survival.

The goal of this program is to rebuild the reef in order to restore harmony and a reliable food source within their ecosystem. I will spend two weeks on an island off the Cambodian shoreline where I will dedicate each day to: constructing coral pods, diving and implementing them into the reef system, as well as helping remove plastic pollution from the beaches and ocean.

As this is a non-profit program, I must fund my trip. I need to raise $3,2000 by March 1st to cover my travel costs and all the essential materials I will need to construct the coral pods and help restore our ocean’s ecosystem. As a full-time student, I need your help.

To show my appreciation, I plan to give back locally to help impact the lives of those around me. I have a formal agreement with the Jesus Center Farm here in Chico (see below). The Jesus Center Farm is a community sponsored agricultural system run by one of Chico State's alumni, Quintin Troester. The Jesus Center Farm has achieved distinction in its ability to cultivate sustainable agricultural practices and provide meaningful jobs for those in need, including the homeless, trauma victims, and recovering addicts. Those that work on the farm heal through the beauty of growing and caring for their own food. As a way of paying your donations forward, I will volunteer 3 hours to the farm for every $100 donated towards my trip. My goal is to volunteer 90 hours prior to leaving for Cambodia. This farm is truly inspirational and exemplifies the power of “community.” (see more about the Jesus Center through the link below).

If you would like to help support this cause, please take a minute to share this post with your community. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated, and most importantly, will be put towards something greater than all of us.

Thank You All,

Max Meyer
