We (Anne and Chris) will be running the Brighton Half Marathon in memory of our wonderful Mum, Susan Mawson, who passed away from Ovarian cancer in June 2023.

Susan lived life with an unflinching optimism. She was someone who took the bad with the good and found the best way to move forward with both. No matter what hand she was dealt, she played it with the same determined, pragmatic lightness. When diagnosed with ovarian cancer, even this couldn’t change her. When the world dealt her a particularly cruel hand, she stubbornly refused to respond in kind. Somehow, she found the best way to take the bad with the good.

She kept thinking of others with a relentless dedication, never once forgetting to send love out to where it was needed. She never stopped seeing the good in others, even if they couldn’t see it in themselves. She always firmly upheld the principle that there is good in everyone. Throughout all of this, somehow, Susan remained an endless source of love and comfort to her friends and family.

This is someone worth running miles for.

Susan chose Target Ovarian Cancer as one of the charities to support at her funeral. She was also always encouraging us to keep fit. We would like to honour both of those things by running a half marathon and raising money for the charity.

Target Ovarian Cancer is the UK's leading ovarian cancer charity working to improve early diagnosis, fund life-saving research and provide support to women with ovarian cancer.

Awareness of ovarian cancer is low, its share of UK research funding has dropped and three quarters of people with ovarian cancer say they do not get the support they need.

Together we can make sure that anyone in the UK who needs it can have the best chances of survival and get the right support at the right time, in a way that's right for them.
