Release the Lease
Donation protected
Citizens of Palos, a local community organization, is working on a “Release the Lease” campaign designed to encourage Albertsons to surrender the lease they currently hold on the vacant building, formerly occupied by Dominicks, on 127th and Ridgeland.
The building, vacant since 2013, is being leased by Albertsons to limit competition for the Jewel located on 127th and Harlem. In a January 19, 2020 article, the Chicago Tribune spotlighted how an attempt by Shepherd High School students to try and bring a recreational oriented business to the property was defeated by the company’s refusal to negotiate with the city to surrender the lease. The news has generated anger among Palos Heights residents and created a groundswell of support demanding that Albertsons, the property owners, and Palos Heights city officials find a solution.
Our ultimate goal is to get the vacant building occupied, and we are researching potential businesses that would be a good fit for the area and generate tax revenue to help improve Palos Heights and maintain a thriving community.
We are asking for the community's support to help raise funds to cover the cost of meeting room rentals and printing of material necessary to help us spread the word across the community.
Thank you for your support!
