Ray Detwiler was sad to see our county not offering to produce PPE for our local hospitals once we knew how bad COVID-19 was going to hit our hometown. He bought a second 3D printer and began printing reusable face shields for his community and those in need. From the start of all of this Ray told his wife that he wanted to use their own resources to provide PPE completely free of charge to healthcare workers. Around 70 of Ray's face shields are out in the wild and he has printed nearly 150 reusable shields at this point!! Ray has created a public spreadsheet for healthcare and essential workers to enter in how much they need. I will attach the link at the end if you need to request! He was facing a shortage of transparent screens for the shields but the community has reached out after his story was featured on WKBN. He has nearly 1500 screens on the way now! Ray's wife Emily, between taking care of their 1 year old, has began to take over the sanitation and packaging of the face shields while he optimizes his printers and ramps up his production.
The two printers he uses are FDM style and is printing them in PLA and PETG filaments. These screens are good for weeks of reuse and with proper sterilization will only need to be thrown away if they deform. All donations will go towards more resources he may need to continue this production of PPE.
