Hi, my name is Dionne Petty, and this is not an easy thing for me to write. My family and I have always done our best to work hard, take care of each other, and figure things out on our own, but right now we’re at a breaking point and we need help. My dad hasn’t been able to work for the past two years because of serious health issues, including non-alcoholic cirrhosis and diabetes. He has applied for disability, but like so many others, he is stuck in the long waiting process and still hasn’t heard back. He is currently facing new medical issues that need to be checked by specialists who can diagnose and give him the correct treatment so he can start working again. My mom works long hours every day until late at night, and on top of that, she cares for my great-grandmother who lives with us. She gives everything she has to our family, but lately, it feels like life keeps throwing one thing after another at us. The latest blow came when our home mortgage payment went up by $800 a month. No matter how many extra hours I work juggling two jobs, we just can’t keep up. This home means everything to us. It’s the place where we’ve laughed, cried, celebrated birthdays, and supported each other through tough times. It’s where my parents have poured their hearts into raising our family. Being vulnerable and open online is scary, but being in the position of losing our house is heartbreaking. We are just asking for a helping hand to get us through this storm until my dad’s disability comes through or we can afford to pay for his medical needs to get him healthy again.
