Let me share a true story with you.

I believe with divine intervention, a little over a month ago I started calling around for a waste management company to see if they would deliver a small dumpster. It was a Saturday morning and we wanted to start Spring cleaning in spite of that recent imminent storm that was approaching. One owner ( Angelo Scarano www.scaranodisposal.com ) called me back and advised me against receiving a delivery as I would have to pay for the weight of the snow that would likely accumulate on top of our trash. I thanked him for the warning and as I was finishing the call he said that he would be happy to provide us with any other services, if we needed it. I declined, telling him that I couldn’t abandon our sweet driver who we look forward to seeing and exchanging uplifting smiles and gestures of love regularly. Angelo knew exactly what I was talking about, as he mentioned that he grew up in this town and has known Greg all his life.

He also mentioned that he “heard” Greg had been let go from Interstate Waste Services (the company that has purchased Rubinetti). He went on to explain that he “heard” that Greg needed necessary surgery and was going to have to go out on disability, at which point he had been laid off. Angelo expressed that he wanted to hire Greg but just didn’t have enough work and couldn’t replace his current employees to do so. Our conversation ended with the idea that I needed to look into this further before we as a family made any changes.

Two weeks passed much quieter then normal as we asked around to see if there was any truth in what was heard. One reliable source had confirmed that it was in fact somewhat true, but nothing as definitive as I needed. So, I called Interstate Waste Services and asked the receptionist. Her response was that Greg was on disability and would return to work when he had recovered. So I asked her if she could send someone to come collect an extra load of garbage and that we would be more than happy to pay for its removal to avoid having a dumpster sitting in our driveway. The receptionist was very helpful and her co-workers showed up no more than 10 minutes later. As the co-workers were filling their truck, my husband and I again asked the men if they knew anything about Greg. ‘The Boss’ (also a very kind gentleman) told us that “Greg was out on disability and would be returning once he has recovered. He has been a staple of Bernardsville for 24 years”. Feeling relieved to hear that there was no injustice here, my husband and I continued on with our day. However, a nagging feeling wouldn’t let this situation go in my heart.

With the help of Angelo Scarano, I was able to get in touch with Greg's wife Gwen. Gwen confirmed that Greg had been terminated from Interstate Waste Services when he had informed them that he had to have surgery and would need to be out on disability. I have received permission from Gwen and Greg to post this and to create a Go Fund Me Account to support them. I have also followed up with Angelo Scarano, for permission to post this story and to see if he in fact would be able to provide Greg with a job if he had enough work. In both cases, Angelo was more than happy to agree.

So with this information, we have created a Go Fund Me account and ask for Bernardsville residents to show the same love that Greggy has shown us all these years.

As a family, we have switched over to Scarano Disposal (www.scaranodisposal) and hope that enough residents will do so as well. Greg is only 64 and not done serving his friends and neighbors. As a family and a resident of Bernardsville, we want Greggy back!
