Holy Jim Fire-Cabin #45

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Karen Dickinson and I am from Laguna Niguel,CA. A few years ago, the love of my life asked me if he should buy us a remote cabin on the Holy Jim trail in the Cleveland National Forest in Trabuco Canyon. I told him that it would be a huge mistake not to. As a writer, I envisioned myself writing novels out there for the rest of my life. He bought it and we began making improvements to it day by day. We installed solar panels, lighting fixtures, ceiling fans, etc. We worked on multiple projects together as our love for cabin #45 grew.

We invited friends and family to share the love of our cabin with them. We went on many hikes, relaxed, and made amazing feasts while at the cabin. The cabin became a part of our family. We laughed and cried there. We spent nights there in the rain listening to the crackle of the fire wood in the wood burning stove. My fiancé would go out there to find his zen throughout the week as did I. He began collecting fine art pieces and placing them at the cabin for safe keeping. We were in love and could never envision life without it.

Yesterday our lives changed forever. We heard word that one cabin burned down in the #holyfire. My fiancé ran out into the woods against all advice. He walked through what looked like an apocalypse only to find our cabin had completely burned down and there were still hot embers throughout it as the stove was still on fire. He was beyond devastated. Meanwhile, I was safe at home praying for his safe return. He called me on his way out of the woods to let me know our cabin was no more. I fell to my knees.

As a newly engaged couple, this cabin came to represent our love and so much more. It was our first home and sanctuary from all the noise of the city life. It was where we placed all our most prized mementos. From book collections, to art collections, we made sure all of our valuables were safe at the cabin. We even put up a professional security system to keep all of our valuables safe. Little did we know we stood no chance against a raging fire. We are currently grieving the loss of a part of our family. The cabin was a huge part of our hearts and the place our relationship grew to what it is today. With our wedding months away, we can’t help but mourn our romantic memories in the most beautiful woods.

I have set up this page to help pay for all of our valuables that were stored away after years of saving and collecting them as well as the home-improvement work we had to do to keep the structure up to code. As many other insurance situations, our insurance does not cover everything and we do not have any documentation to provide as it burned in the fire. We will strictly use funds to help replace valuables that were lost. Cabin #45 was around 100 years old and it will be deeply missed. Our hearts are currently empty but we ask that you help us move forward by donating anything that you possibly can. Even $1 means the world to us. We appreciate all of your support as we grieve the loss of our good friend, Cabin #45.
