Eagle Scout Project to Clean the Bay!

Donation protected

Hi!

If you don’t know me, my name is Chase O’Malley.  I’m 16 years old and I am a Life Scout in
Boy Scout Troop 1631, on Kent island, Maryland.  Right now, I’m currently working on my
Eagle Scout project to help clean the Chesapeake Bay.

For my Eagle Project, I am assembling and installing two SeaBins, trash skimming devices that sit just below the water line and with suction, will clean the surrounding water. They are
being installed in Kentmorr Marina. These devices will be only the 3rd and 4th of their kind in the entire United States! https://seabinproject.com/the-seabin-v5/

Kentmorr Marina is located about halfway down Kent Island, Maryland, and is right on the
Chesapeake Bay.  Kentmorr Marina, with its direct connection to the Bay,  experiences the
impact of the trash and pollution problem that comes from the Bay.  However, the issue that   this marina is facing is only part of the larger issue the Bay is experiencing. According to a
study done by www.chesapeakebay.net, 80% of the Chesapeake Bay is partially or fully
impaired by toxic contaminates. A different study conducted only a year and a half ago found that trash, pollution, and rising nitrogen levels have engendered dead zones in the Bay,
including a 2 cubic mile zone near Kent Island. These “dead zones” kill all life inside them,          staggering the fish, crab, and oyster populations of the Chesapeake and severely lowering the overallwater quality.

The amount of pollution in the Bay is pretty severe. The pollution mainly consists of
organic material, trash such as plastic, and oil from the bilges of the many commercial ships
that transport on the Bay.  The SeaBins I will be assembling and installing for my Eagle Scout Project will collect and filter these types of pollution.  As a matter of fact, their advanced            filters will be able to collect some of the smallest microplastics to pollution as large as the      machine themselves! These machines will significantly increase water quality, promote a          healthy local ecosystem, and will begin to tackle the rapidly evolving pollutionissue that the
Chesapeake Watershed is facing every day.

Currently, my project is in its fundraising phase. To install two SeaBin systems, I need to raise at least $12,000.  This hefty amount will be used to cover the  expense of purchasing the SeaBin devices, shipping , and installation in the water. Any amount you can donate, regardless of how much, will help me in completing my Eagle Scout project and is greatly appreciated. If      1,000 people donate just $12, I will be able to complete my project and take a step towards    establishing a larger movement to clean the Bay!

For official inquires, email me at [email redacted] or DM me on Instagram at
@Chase_On_The_Bay.   If you can’t support my project financially, please share this video on
social media and with your friends and family!  I am also looking for Corporate sponsors or
donations and pull welcome any information or contacts you might have.

Let’s tackle this issue together, one Eagle Scout project at a time.

Thank you,
Chase O’Malley
