Volunteer Trip to Lebanon
Donation protected
Hi everybody,
My name is Christian and I am an American student from Baltimore, Maryland. I am currently a Master of Arts candidate at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, concentrating on the Middle East. This summer I will be going to Beirut, Lebanon to volunteer with SB Overseas to teach English to Syrian refugee children. SB Overseas is a Belgian non-profit organization that provides education for refugee youth as well as women's empowerment programs in Lebanon and Syria. These programs are crucial because refugee children in Lebanon have limited access to education, and are required to speak either English or French before enrolling in the public school system. The volunteer work that I will do with SB Overseas will give these children a better chance to get a good education and, as a result, have a brighter future.
Since I will be working as a volunteer, I will not be earning money or receiving any grants, but rather will be living off of my own personal savings. I would like to make it clear that your donations to this GoFundMe campaign will assist me in my expenses (including flights to and from Beirut, lodging, groceries, and other living expenses), and will not go to the organization itself. Because I am currently sudying abroad as graduate student, I have not been able to work and save money for the past nine months. While my university often gives funding for unpaid internships, it unfortunately does not provide assistance for volunteer work such as this. Any and all donations would be greatly appreciated, and no contribution is too small.
I plan to provide regular updates on my experience in Beirut (probably via Facebook), so that you will have a sense of the kind of work that I am doing. If you would like to know more about SB Overseas, I have attached a link here: http://sboverseas.org/what-we-do/
I would like to thank you in advance for any contribution you can make. I believe that this will be an amazing opportunity for me and that I will make a positive impact on the lives of these children.
Sincerely,
Christian Weiss
