2020 BULL CITY SQUAT CHALLENGE

The annual  Bull City Squat Challenge  (BCSC) was started by Choice Performance owner Tyrone Irby in 2015 and is in its fifth year.  Each year the goal is to raise awareness for both local and national charities.  In the last five years, we have raised over $24,000 in support of food insecurity (Backpack Buddies), mental health (Erika’s Lighthouse), and illness (The Duke Cancer Institute).

This year's event will be held on Saturday September 12, 2020 and will support Team ASPCA (saved by Maggie)  and SECU Family House at UNC Hospitals .  Our sponsors for the 2020 event are CEP Compression , Moe’s Original BBQ in Durham , Ponysaurus Brewing ,Hillsborough Running Club, Georgelinneymortgage.com, and DVOC Photography.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals® (ASPCA®) was the first humane society to be established in North America and is, today, one of the largest in the world.  The ASPCA’s mission, as stated by founder Henry Bergh in 1866, is “to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States.”

A donation to Team ASPCA will help our member Jessica McLaughlin in her goal to run the 2020 New York City Marathon.  Maggie, Jessica and David Mclaughlin’s dog, was rescued by them two years ago (Maggie, a pit bull mix, is now 5).

The SECU Family House at UNC Hospital is a safe, nurturing, affordable home for patients and their loved ones who travel great distances to UNC Hospitals for life-saving procedures and serious illnesses.  We provide guests lodging, meals, supportive programs, transportation and a caring support network. We serve families from all 100 North Carolina counties and beyond, helping them rest, heal, and gather strength when they need it most.

“Our goal when we opened in December 2015 was to create the ultimate training facility, but also to be a resource to support our community.  We have chosen at least one local charity to fundraise for each year.  This event allows us to give back to this great community, and we hope you feel the same.”

Thank you in advance for your generosity.
