Want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money to benefit Kidney Care UK, and any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.
My brother in law Mike was taken into hospital on the 9th June 2023, out of the blue he was given the devastating news that his kidney was not working and was functioning at 7% and would have to go onto Dialysis.
As a family we all struggled to come to terms with the fact that Mike had been given such news, a man that prides himself on keeping fit and active with his wife Rebecca who has worked most of his life in extreme sports and lived for a period in France doing something he loved which was being outdoors and in nature.
It transpired that Mike had a condition called Vasculitis which had attacked his Kidney.
Mike was started on Plasma exchanges and Dialysis, followed by a course of chemotherapy treatment known as cyclophosphamide which is a potent immunosuppresive drug that is used to help kill severe cases of Vasculitis aswell as some forms of Cancer.
Mike is now clear of Vasculitis, however he requires dialysis 3 times a week to keep him alive.
Mike was told that his only real chance of getting 'the old him' back was to undergo a kidney transplant.... something that can take years as majority of the time you are waiting for someone to sadly pass, during this time Mikes health and condition could worsen.
During this time my sister Rebecca, mikes wife stepped forward as a living donor and has put herself through all the necessary steps and stages to find out if she is eligible to donate her kidney.
By a stroke of luck.... she is a match.
They are now in the final stages of transplant sign off and soon will be embarking on a journey that even I cannot comprehend. My sister will be donating her kidney to Mike.
In sickness and in health, how many of us can truly say that we will take that vow and commit to it with such bravery, strength and determination to help one an other.
I would like to try and raise as much money as I can for Kidney Care UK, so myself and my partner Mark will be embarking on the Manchester 10k on the 18th May 2025.
I am also undertaking a 5k run at Tatton Park on the 10th April 2025.
Please try and donate as much as you can, anything you can spare would be a great help and would really make a difference.
