Medical transport home!

Hi, my name is Vince and I'm fundraising to provide a medical flight for my sister, brother-in-law, and nephew so they can move back home where family can be there to help them in this next phase of life in assisted care.

My sister is bound to her wheelchair, my brother-in-law has multiple medical issues but is able to walk using a walker, and my nephew is paraplegic, and has numerous medical issues requiring constant care to stay alive.

My sister has spent the vast majority of her life teaching piano, even after she was no longer able to play herself because of her deteriorating medical condition. She's been a selfless teacher, often teaching for little or no money because of her belief that musical talent should be fostered where sincere desire exists. Simultaneously, she's tirelessly managed to cook for the severely-restricted dietary needs of her husband and son.

My brother-in-law has spent nearly every hour of his waking time in the 20 years since his retirement (and thus losing company medical insurance) taking care of my nephew's daily medical maintenance. For the whole family, the last 50 years have been a daily fight to stay alive, (the last 20 on a pretty-much fixed income). In their advanced age, they can't continue that fight on their own, so they've divested and are moving home to an assisted living facility.

Because of my nephew's physical challenges, he's unable to fly commercial air. While the reasons are many, he'll need constant maintenance of his medical apparatus by a nurse, which can't be done in a public environment. He's also unable to sit "up-right", and must have his position adjusted from partial to full-recline regularly, and commercial airline seating doesn't recline sufficiently nor provide for adequate re-positioning.

As a result, we need to arrange for medical air transport with skilled nursing. We just found out that Grace on Wings, a volunteer group can make the transportation happen for just the hard-costs of fuel and some ground costs, so instead of our original need of $35,000, we are now looking at $22,000 the flight, in-flight medical care, and EMS transportation to/from the airport/aircraft. While still quite a daunting financial burdon, Grace on Wings has placed this goal much closer. We are doing all we can now to pull that together and are deeply grateful for any contribution you can make towards that goal.
