We are a group of 7 determined and committed Sequoia students who are invested in creating a change in our community. What started as just an idea quickly turned into a goal that we set for ourselves & hope soon to bring it to life. We are really interested in creating change and helping the homeless people because we feel that it’s an issue in our community that isn’t talked much about. Additionally, we are looking to inspire others to help with this cause and to spread awareness. Homelessness is a global problem that often times isn’t advocated for or isn’t acknowledge enough to make a change towards it. In America alone an estimated 557,742 people are experiencing homelessness (January 2017). In the Bay Area there is an estimated 35,000 people who are homeless, our community. Although we can’t provide for all homeless people and we can’t completely change homelessness for them, we believe that even if we provide a little, we can inspire them to continue the fight and save themselves from homelessness. We plan to make 100 care packages and distribute them around San Jose, Redwood City, San Mateo, and San Francisco, in the time span of 2 days. We will provide them with some basic necessities that they may need, information on some programs they can enroll into to help them get back on their feet, and emotional support to show them that they have people on their side. We have done a lot of research on programs for homeless people looking to stabilize themselves and how we can create the care packages. Furthermore, we will also like to interview them because we feel that many stereotypes are put on homeless people and it’s important to hear their stories without judgement and understand their perspectives on the issue. Our goal is to raise $6000 so we can build a care package that will help them and begin their motivation to look for change for themselves. We would really appreciate your help. Thank you for taking the time to read our goals and We hope that you join our cause and help us make this possible. Additionally, If you would like to stay posted on the process and you want the video of the project, please email : [email redacted]
