Hi, my name is Kira and I am trying to raise some funds for my older brother Sam due to his recent diagnosis of Spinal Cord Cavernoma and the effect that this has caused to his mobility. Prior to his diagnosis Sam was a fit and healthy 30 year old working as a Plumbing and Heating Engineer.

There has been 300 cases of Spinal Cord Cavernoma recorded worldwide. In Sam’s case tumorous vessels were found bleeding into the spine, blood was trapped due to the location causing life threatening concern and immediate surgical intervention was required to prevent further irreversible damage.

Sam pre-surgery lost feeling in his right leg and both feet and was advised he would have a 50% chance of paralysis, loss of sight and loss of bladder & bowel functioning. A 7+ hour surgery left Sam not paralysed but facing a 10% chance of getting back feeling to his legs and feet, directly impacting his mobility. Due to this we currently do not know if he will be able to walk properly again. With the emphasis right now on his physiotherapy and recovery being positive, he won’t be able to return to work for at least a year.

With recovery time and the future of his mobility being unknown we are opening a go fund me page to raise money and awareness for Sam in the hopes this will help protect him from any further mental health challenges he faces due to financial concerns. The aim is to support him however we can with his overheads such as rent and bills whilst he works through his recovery.

Any donation will really help no matter the amount and go directly to Sam, he currently is only entitled to statutory sick pay through his employer.
