2019 has not been so kind to us. First we had terrible luck buying a lemon of a car and then the government decided to shut down so we are living off my teaching salary.
We recently traded in our truck for a more commuter friendly used car. In November, we went to Car Master Pro Auto and found a great car. The dealer told us he was the mechanic for the car and if we found we had problems, to contact him. 2 weeks after bringing the car home, we started having problems. Fast forward to Christmas, the car begins to fail. First, there were just a few warning lights and a major noise coming from the engine. So loud it could be heard inside the house. The next day we tried to start it and it wouldn’t turn over. We replaced the battery. It still wouldn’t start. We had the car towed to a big, reputable dealer.
Several days later, we receive unfathomable news that there was a bolt that seems to have not been secured, this bolt caused catastrophic engine damage leading to engine failure. We contacted the dealer and he said it was not his problem and he didn’t even do all the work on the car.
Our choices are to replace the engine with a used engine $15,000, continue to pay a $22,000 loan on a car that doesn’t run and buy another car.
On top of all this stress, my husband must continue to work during the government shutdown, but is not received a paycheck. This is devastating financially and emotionally for my family. Thankfully we have been able to borrow a car to use while we figure out what we are doing.
