Support for ROBS’ Susan Draper

Donation protected
Susan Draper, beloved former ROBS Music (K-2nd) and Theatre Arts (8th grade) teacher, needs our support and encouragement as she has recently moved to Lubbock to serve as caregiver for her parents who both suffer with dementia.

In her 13 years as part of the ROBS community, Susan has impacted hundreds of our children by inspiring and captivating them with her gift of music.

You may recall, in early 2017, Susan faced a tremendously difficult season when a tumor was removed from her spine. But she trusted that God had good plans for her as she recovered from surgery, underwent extensive rehabilitation, and joyfully began teaching at ROBS again for the 2017-18 school year.

Then late last Spring, God showed Susan a new plan He was unfolding for her, that of full time caregiver for her ill parents, Dorothy and Milt. In these difficult circumstances, Susan is trusting in God’s promises found in Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

It’s a beautiful and brave thing that Susan has done-leaving her dream job at ROBS, saying goodbye to her friends and well-formed community, moving to a small town where she knows few, and taking on the challenging role of caregiver to her parents. But what a BEAUTIFUL picture it could be if her ROBS family were lining the difficult road she’s walking, celebrating her, cheering her on with our prayers, words of encouragement, and generosity.

Susan is trusting in God’s provision, but if you’re able, please use this forum as a way to contribute a monetary gift of your liking to help Susan recoup the moving costs she incurred this summer as well as help with the daunting future costs of caring for two parents with dementia.

God has graciously provided employment for Susan for the school year; she is teaching high school theatre in an underserved community.  She would appreciate our prayers for wisdom in how to connect and best love these students who come from challenging home lives. Susan tells us that words of encouragement are her love language. Feel free to express your love and support by writing to her here:

Let’s help remind Susan of God’s good plans for her in this new chapter of life. Thank you for contributing, in whichever way possible (prayers, words of encouragement or financial assistance), to a special young woman who has given our community so much.
