In February i will be running a 5k every day and completing a triathlon to raise money for WHY (We Hear You) in honor of my mums 2 years journey through cancer

In January 2024, my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was a moment that brought worry and uncertainty into the house, and no one quite knew what the next few months would look like. Doctors moved quickly, and in February she had her first surgery. It went as well as anyone could have hoped and only had a few difficulties, though the recovery left her tired and quiet for a while. Soon after came chemotherapy, which meant long days and nights were spent in hospital for her. Then radiotherapy meant regular appointments and new routines. The treatments fell hard on her; the fatigue, the appointments, the changes in how she felt from week to week. Even simple everyday tasks sometimes took more effort than they should have. It was difficult to watch someone so strong have to slow down. yet slowly things moved in the right direction.

WHY supported my mum through her breast cancer journey at a time when life felt frightening and overwhelming. Their counsellors gave her comfort, strength and a place to feel safe, and seeing the difference that support made is something I’ll never forget. now I’m doing this challenge to give something back to the charity that helped her feel less alone. Also, I am raising money for We Hear You because they urgently need £55,000 to keep the charity running and continue offering vital support. We Hear You provides free counselling and emotional care for people affected by cancer and life threatening conditions. Without this funding, the helping that so many rely on could be reduced or lost.

So throughout February I’ll be running 5K every single day and will be completing a triathlon at the end, in celebration of 2 years since her cancer treatment started, and to help WHY continue supporting other families facing cancer and other life-changing illnesses.
