5K A Day for Pieta House
Donation protected
Hi there
My name is Laura Allen and for the month of November I have decided to run '5K A Day' to raise funds for Pieta House. Suicide and self-harm are more prominent now, more than ever and being in the middle of a global pandemic makes everyday life so much harder to cope with due to restrictions and lockdowns. Winter is also playing its part in making life difficult as the days get shorter and the nights get longer, it can become a very dark place, one where some people may struggle to see the light at the end of the tunnel or see a way out of. On a good day life can be a struggle to get through but when your only form of escape has been taken away due to Covid-19, life can become unbearable for some.
There are so many charities and organisations across the country doing tremendous work in helping people and I have chosen Pieta House as it holds a special place in my heart. They do their best to save as many lives as possible every year. Pieta has a 24 hour freephone helpline which anyone can call and also a text number (both can be found above on the picture). Pieta is answering the needs of Ireland and provides free counselling to anyone self-harming, feeling suicidal or bereaved by suicide. Their staff are fully qualified and provide a professional one-to-one therapeutic service. They help each client to rebuild their mindset and support them through the process. However, in order to continue to provide this service free of charge they need help. So all funds that I raise will be going to Pieta House to help them to continue the fantastic work they do in helping people and saving lives. Nearly everyone has been affected by suicide or self-harm in some way and if you haven't been, please count yourself blessed.
I will spend the 30 days of November running 5K each day (within my 5K restriction-thankfully I have some lovely places to run and vary my routes each day with The Park, The Abbey and Cloone) and I don't intend on breaking any world records along the way-there will be no 5K in 20 minutes or anything!! I would really appreciate any support possible. From liking and sharing to donating (no matter how big or small) to maybe even joining me for a socially distanced 5K one day, every bit will help. I have set up an Instagram page (@5K_A_Day_for_Pieta) where I will post daily updates so please give a follow to keep up to date.
I would just like to say thank you for reading this and for your support, it means so much and your help will go a long way in saving lives.
Please remember, it's okay not to be okay and it is absolutely okay to ask for help. You are never alone and help is always out there.
