Berkshire Lowland Search and Rescue
Support the BLSAR Torpedoes at the Wokingham Swimathon
On Wednesday 16th July, a keen team of Berkshire Lowland Search & Rescue (BLSAR) volunteers and supporters - aka the BLSAR Torpedoes - will be making a splash at the Wokingham Swimathon, hosted by the Wokingham Lions.
We’re diving in at 10am at the Carnival Hub in Wokingham and aiming to swim over 80 lengths (that’s at least 2km!) in just 50 minutes to raise funds for our vital, life-saving work.
Why we are swimming
BLSAR is a 100% volunteer search and rescue charity that supports Thames Valley Police and other emergency services in searching for high-risk vulnerable missing people across Berkshire.
We’re also there when the community needs extra support—helping the NHS, local authorities and emergency services during major incidents, severe weather or public health crises.
Our highly trained team is on-call 24/7 - ready to search on foot, by boat, or drone, in all weather, at a moment’s notice.
We receive no government funding and must raise £30,000 a year just to stay operational - plus more to equip new team members and replace essential kit like radios, floodlights and dry suits.
"We are available 24 hours a day, every day of the year, come rain, shine or snow."
Please support our swim and help us keep showing up - for free, for as long as it takes -when people need us most.
Please donate and help us hit our target. Every donation helps us stay prepared, stay safe, and bring missing loved ones home.
Thank you for being part of our mission.
