The 'All Hands On Braille Camp For Kids'
Donation protected
Donate $5, $10, $25 or whatever you can, it's all appreciated. The 'All Hands On Braille Camp For Kids' will introduce blind and limited-vision children (ages 8-12) to the beauty of Braille in a summer camp setting. A 5-day overnight camp program that is fun, creative and comprehensive will enhance the experience of these children in their use of Braille.
Braille Literacy Canada (BLC), Citizens with Disabilities - Ontario (CWDO), the Alliance for Equality of Blind Canadians (AEBC) and the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) have currently initiated a fundraiser (from November 18, 2013 until January 17 2014) to successfully launch this Braille camp experience in 2014.
The activities offered during the 5-day camp experience encompass the arts, science and recreation. At All Hands on Braille Camp, students will participate in confidence-building activities with peers; they will be mentored by independent, professional adults "“ also vision-impaired. Most importantly, the children will experience the beauty of Braille first-hand. The All Hands on Braille program will take place at the CNIB Lake Joseph Centre, Monday July 28th - Friday August 1st 2014. The beauty of Braille camp experience will extend beyond the camp "“ enabling children to continue their connection with Braille mentors and peers - who have committed their support - for a 1 year period.
Literacy through Braille is the key to success for blind and limited-vision children and we must equip our children with the tools to succeed. Our goal is to fund this wonderful and unique 5-day camp experience for up to 40 children. To successfully launch the "˜All Hands on Braille camp for Kids' in 2014 our target funding amount is $30,000.
Any additional funding beyond the 30k will allow us to reduce the cost to participants and offer funding for under-privileged families.
