Support The Olive Branch for Children - Feet First

Hi! Our names are Avril, Amy, Doireann, Fiona & Nicola. We are final year Podiatric Medicine students at the University of Galway. This summer we will be travelling to Tanzania to volunteer with The Olive Branch for Children's 'Feet First' program.

The Olive Branch for Children is a nonprofit organization which aims to help remote communities in Tanzania identify their primary needs and develop community-led programs to support vulnerable members within those communities. They focus on community heath care, HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, childhood education, food support, environmental issues, gender equality, and vulnerable women and children. The health care services aim to provide people in vulnerable communities with access to health services and information, provide referrals and support to access larger hospitals.

We will be volunteering with the 'Feet First' program. This program specializes in the treatment of wounds caused by Diabetes, Leprosy, and other Chronic Illnesses, as well as, traumatic wounds, caused by minor or major accidents. The Feet First program also focuses on the treatment and/or management of lower limb problems such as arthritis, neuropathy, plantar fasciitis and fungal infections, providing at-home services to ensure all patients receive the necessary care they deserve.

Our goal is to assist the Feet First program in their community-led programs and the promotion of foot and wound care in vulnerable and rural areas of Tanzania.
