2014 welcomes a new year and an opportunity to travel to Ghana from June 27-July 5, 2014 on a Volunteer Service Trip to educate people on the prevention of HIV/AIDS epidemic in communities, visit schools in Ghana to talk to students about HIV/AIDS. I will be assisting with local workshops; participate in awareness program and support sessions. As an HIV/ AIDS volunteer, I will be working on the main issues surrounding HIV/AIDS.
During my trip, I will have the opportunity to:
- Explain, through a simple method approved by the UN what the HIV / AIDS virus actually is, and how it affects a human body.
-Educate people about how the virus is transmitted, and how infection can be prevented.
-Explain how, after infection, life can be prolonged through medication, healthy food, and a healthier lifestyle.
I already have a passion for health as a recent graduate in 2012 with my Master's Degree in Public Health and my current position as a Disease Investigator for Syphilis and HIV/AIDS.
I am fully aware that funds can be tight, however, if you would like to help support me on this service trip all donations are due by May 1, 2014. I am raising funds for the program fee ($250), my Ghanaian Visa ($50), vaccinations ($150) and airfare ($1550). The dates of my trip are June 27, 2014 through July 5, 2014.
