50th Birthday Bash for the Hope of Grace
Donation protected
Hello (American)!!! Talofa (Samoan)!!! Hej (Danish)!!!
I am Ferila Langkilde. I will be turning 50 years young in September 2022. Woop! Woop! I am using my 50th Birthday Bash platform as a fundraiser towards an organization that supports a cause dear and near to my heart: HOUSE of GRACE, https://www.houseofgracedv.org/. I am asking family, friends, and the community NOT to buy me birthday gifts but rather to donate for the charity. The good Lord has blessed my life with an abundance, and I wanted to give back to the community. The goal is 50 x 50 = $2,500. The funds will support the organization's needs to empower victims and live a productive life. My 50th Birthday Bash is being held on 24th September 2022. On this day, my family and I will be presenting a check to the House of Grace.
Have you known someone or been a victim of domestic violence? The abuse can be subtle or obvious. Domestic violence can be physical or psychological, affecting anyone of any age, gender, race, or sexual orientation. It may include behaviors meant to scare, physically harm, or control a partner. And while every relationship is different, domestic violence typically involves an unequal power dynamic in which one partner tries to assert control over the other in various ways. Why did I choose the House of Grace? I had a family member and friend that reached out to the House of Grace for support. I was told later that the House of Grace provided food, clothing, and resources to help improve their lives. The House of Grace has operated a Domestic Violence Shelter for over twenty years in North Mississippi. It is a Christ-centered ministry educating and serving the needs of those impacted by domestic violence. House of Grace has been an established ministry since May 6th, 1998. It was established to serve the population and provide a residential shelter and supportive services to its residents. It has established a community identity as a resource for victims, families, law enforcement, community agencies and others throughout the 10-county area.
I encourage anyone to seek help and stop the violence. Domestic violence occurs when a person consistently aims to control their partner through physical, sexual, or emotional abuse. The United States Department of Justice defines domestic violence as “a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship that one partner uses to gain or maintain control over another intimate partner" https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/basics/domestic-violence. The statistics are alarming. More than 20,000 phone calls are placed to domestic violence hotlines nationwide on a typical day. Domestic victimization is correlated with a higher rate of depression and suicidal behavior. If you are interested in reading additional statistics, please click on https://ncadv.org/STATISTICS.
How can you tell if you’re in an abusive relationship?
Abusive relationships center around control and power. Common tactics that perpetrators use include:
1. A pattern of violence—episodes interspersed with apologies, gifts, and promises to stop.
2. Isolating the victim from friends, family, hobbies, or even their job.
3. Instilling guilt in the victim for their behavior or wanting more freedom.
