Fernando was a husband, father, brother-in-law, godfather, and dear friend to many. His work as an engineer had him involved in numerous projects across Portugal and in Angola. Fernando’s first love however was his family. His wife Zezinha and his children Liliana and Diogo knew only a husband and father who put them above all else. He was actively engaged in supporting them in all of their endeavors.


Fernando was a passionate distance runner. Running brought many benefits to his life. The community that he fostered and the dear friends he made through this activity enriched his time on the trails. Even though his life ended after a race, I am sure that Fernando is cheering us on from heaven every time we get out on the road or trail. In honor of him, we will work together to purchase a defibrillator for the Bombeiros of Caldas da Rainha. 


The gift of the defibrillator will be made in one man’s name but will benefit many in our community. We will be asking the fire department to make sure that the ambulance with this defibrillator is deployed as a support vehicle for area races. But it will also be an additional resource for that community when there is an emergency.
