50 Miles for Quinn: Celiac Awareness

Donation protected
I’m turning 50 on October 8, and to celebrate, I’m going to run 50 miles for Quinn. You’re probably not wondering why: You’ve met me. You’re thinking this is about the masochism. But it’s not! Or at least not just about the masochism. More important is that I’m doing it to raise awareness about celiac disease, the condition Quinn, our daughter, was diagnosed with at the age of 7 in late 2022.

Celiac is a chronic autoimmune disorder in which consuming gluten — a protein found in wheat, rye, and other grains — triggers a severe and immediate response from the body. The immune system attacks the cells lining the small intestine, preventing proper nutrient absorption. It's not fun.

If you’d like to help me celebrate in ways that don’t involve joining me for a ridiculously long training run, I’ve started a Gofundme fundraiser on Quinn’s behalf, to help cover her future medical and educational needs, and if you’d be interested in giving a little, it would mean an awful lot to me. But either way, thanks so much for reading all the way to the end of this. I'll see you at the finish line in the fall.
