Shaving my Beard
BEARDSMEN:
For the past six years, I have grown, cultivated, tended and cared for my large, red beard. During this time I have established the Ballarat Beard and Moustache Union, and I serve as the president of the club. The BBMU have approximately 500 members. We have organised many social events, including the wildly successful Ballarat Beard and Moustache Comp, held yearly at Hop Temple, attracting 80 competitors and over 300 people during the Ballarat Heritage Weekend. I have also competed in, and judged, multiple beard competitions all over Australia.
During the work week, I am an operating theatre technician at Ballarat Health Services. During normal times in my workplace, I can (just) contain my beard within the operating room to meet infection control practices. During these times when we all have to make some significant adjustments to our lives, the infectious nature of Covid19 means that I cannot wear the required personal protective equipment under my beard to protect myself and others while doing my job.
THIS MEANS, THE BEARD HAS TO GO!
This news saddens me, but in honor of the loss of my beard I wish to raise funds to help our community in these tough times. The SJD Foundation Ballarat are currently arranging services to assist those in our local community that truly need it most by supplying essential items during these uncertain and evolving times.
100% of every dollar raised through this Go Fund Me page will go directly to the SJD Foundtion's supply of services and essential items to both the underprivileged and the elderly in the Ballarat community.
Thanks for your support, and look after yourselves and each other.
