Destination Florida Children’s Charity

Hi, I’m Ellie and I am a paediatric nurse working in Manchester. I am raising funds for Destination Florida Children’s Charity, which I have had a the privilege of working with as a medical volunteer for yellow group in September 2023.

Destination Florida is a amazing charity which helps children facing significant challenges to experience life-changing trips to Florida. We take around 75 children from the North of England who have medical needs, that otherwise may not have this opportunity of a trip of a lifetime. Lasting for eight days, the children are given the opportunity to visit all the major theme parks, including; Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure.

Coping with an illness can be a lonely place, especially when you are a child. Destination Florida helps change that by providing a safe, supportive, inclusive and fun environment, with a mixture of medical (doctors, nurses, physiotherapists etc) and non-medical volunteers. The children grow in independence, confidence and make lifelong friendships.

This trip was the single best thing I have ever been privileged to have been a part of. I have experienced first hand just how magical this trip is, and the difference made to the children by the end of it.
