- Hi my name is Tianna and my sisters name is Lexi we are the granddaughters of Cristobal Rodriguez. Saturday night our papa (Cristobal) was on his way home from work and he was racially profiled by Marion County Sheriff’s Department and was arrested. He has been in the process for years in trying to get his citizenship but has had a hard time due to our nana who has Schizophrenia and was unable to help him but has been working with an immigration lawyer for a year and a half, we’re currently on hold for a court hearing. He is our nana’s sole caretaker and provider. A devoted and loving husband, grandfather, father
- and great grandfather. He has never done anything wrong and deserves a chance to be set free and live his life without the fear of being taken away from his family. We are asking for a simple donation to help raise enough money for our papa to retain a criminal immigration lawyer. As of right now, our papa is risking the possibility of being moved to Alligator Alcatraz, which is a concentration camp in the Everglades of Florida. As of right now our papa is more than likely being transferred to Alligator Alcatraz. For those who don’t know this is a facility designed to house migrants. This facility is located in the remote Everglades, surrounded by what’s been described as “alligator- and python-infested waters.” The name is a play on the infamous Alcatraz prison, surrounded by dangerous wildlife.
After much research,
This camp has only been open for a matter of days, and there have already been several complaints along with state officials being blocked from entering. These detainees are in cages, 32 to a cage with only 3 toilets but with how backed up they are one of those toilets are only known for working. The toilets are their drinking water, they’re being denied religion, they’re being served one meal a day with complaints of maggots found in their food, they have no way to bathe, no way to wash their mouths, the toilet overflows and the floor is covered in feces, and they’re being denied their medications. Even state officials are being denied to view their medical facilities, when in other facilities they have access.
Right now our papa has a fighting chance to gain citizenship because of how far in the process he already is. We have spoke to his attorney and the retainer fee alone is close to 10k and we were advised that he will be transferred to Alligator Alcatraz, where he will suffer under these same conditions. Please help us save our papa, a man with a fighting chance from this place. His court date is July 24th and we’re doing all we can to advocate for him.
