SAVE OUR KANATA GREENSPACE

For over 40 years the community greenspace on which the Kanata Golf Club was built comprised a significant portion of the dedicated open space in the centre of Kanata North, a suburb of Ottawa.

In 1981 the leaders of the City of Kanata crafted agreements to permanently protect this greenspace. The agreement ensures the land must be maintained as a golf course while allowing residents and their families to share its use as a recreational area outside the time it is operated as a golf course.

When the current owner ClubLink purchased the golf course in 1996 they agreed to be bound by these agreements. In December 2018 ClubLink unilaterally proposed to build and profit from a massive housing development that will consume and destroy this open area.    In doing so they are intent on turning a $2.833 million dollar investment into profits of a hundred million dollars or more!

Our communities are absolutely and overwhelmingly opposed to the ClubLink proposal!

We know that ClubLink has deep financial resources and can afford a long and expensive fight.  We are also afraid that our City may not ‘Keep the Promise’ of these historic agreements choosing instead, the cash from development fees and a broader tax base over the protection of our community values and this accessible open space.  

Our communities are committed to doing what it takes to protect our environment by preserving this gem in the heart of our city space for the benefit of all and so ... we must prepare to fight!
