Help My Mom Get Lights Back On

Hi, my name is Samantha. I’ve never done one of these before but my mom is in a really tough spot (financially and with her health) and I was hoping to help her get money so she can meet her past due payments for her electric. In the winter months, it was over $500+ a month because of her furnace being on to keep her and my sister warm. This caused her to fall behind on her bill pretty quickly and now she owes almost $2,000…. money she doesn’t have.

***Update: as of 06/17/2025, we still don’t have enough money to get it turned back on and the amount that we have to have in order to get it back on increased due to the most recent electric bill being added to the account. We asked if we could pay with the amount that we have now to get it turned back on then pay the remaining balance when we have the money in August. But, since the account is not eligible for a payment plan or anything, they can’t do that for us. So please help us get to $2,125.06!!!!! Including donations made in cash and through cashapp, we only have $917 raised. So please help us. Anything is appreciated.

My mom has an unknown debilitating condition that causes intermittent paralysis of her whole body and severe muscle spasms that cause her to freeze and cripple in pain. They have caused her to become very weak and she’s not as strong as she used to be. She also has a brain tumor which may or may not be the cause of her confusion at times and mood swings. Doctors are at a loss for what is wrong with her but she physically and mentally cannot function to work more than what she is struggling to right now and not having power is making it worse for her. She has tried going to the DHHR but they told her that she “makes too much money” with her part time job (20 hours a week) and disability. She’s tried looking for another job but there’s not many jobs she can do with her health.

She is getting ready to sell her personal belongings but I wanted to try to help by creating this go fund me so she can keep the things she’s worked so hard for. And We’ve also tried to call the numbers on the resources page for help with the electric bill and only one could help with $100 for her almost $2,000 bill.

All of her money that she makes from her job and disability goes towards her rent, car payment, car insurance, phone bill, internet, gas, and barely food for her and my sister. She tries so hard to meet these bills but she hardly meets them.

Anything that anybody can donate will help her tremendously. She didn’t want me making a go fund me because it’s embarrassing but she let me do it anyway because she knows that she needs the help.
