My name is André Wright, and I grew up inside the Balfour Guest House in Montego Bay. My grandfather built it with his own hands. I learned to walk there. I played in its hallways. I watched my family welcome guests with love and pride. This place has shaped who I am, and it has always been a home filled with love, community, and the spirit of Jamaica.
As many know, Hurricane Melissa recently devastated Jamaica, and Montego Bay was hit directly by the eye of the storm. This was the most destructive hurricane our island has ever faced. The guest house suffered significant damage, including the loss of part of our roof, leaving the home vulnerable and forcing us to temporarily close.
This GoFundMe will help us repair the damages, restore the property, and support the incredible staff who have been with us for years. Many of them are now without work due to the closure and are dealing with damage to their own homes and families. Your support — no matter the size — will help us rebuild, recover, and continue the legacy my grandfather created for our community and for everyone who has walked through our doors.
