Welcome to the Feeding our Future homepage!
I have been a 6th grade teacher for nineteen years. We are a diverse population with 89.1% of our families denoted as low income, and 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. While the stay-at-home orders are difficult for all of us, it is absolutely devastating for our families. The district distributes box lunches for those who can travel to one of seven distribution sites, but only on Mondays and Wednesdays. Many families cannot always get to these sites and this food is simply not enough. With that realization, I contacted friends and asked them if they would help me send meals to our hardest hit families.
We collectively came up with a list of children and their families who are struggling severely. We have teamed up with two local restaurants and have been sending meals Thursday-Saturday to help bridge the gap until the next district distribution. To date we have fed 9 families: 20 adults and 33 children. We’re off to a great start, but there’s so much more we need to do. The list is growing as families lose their homes and jobs and their savings dry up. That’s where we need your help! Any support you can give goes directly to our families in the form of a hot meal during a desperate time. We appreciate your help. Stay safe and stay healthy.
